Your Body, God’s Temple-September Scripture Writing Plan

I’ll be the first to admit that I can do a better job of taking care of my body. It’s hard, though, to always make wise food choices and move my body regularly.
However, when I began researching verses for this month’s Scripture Writing Plan, I was reminded of a few things that put taking care of my body into a new perspective.
1. My body is God’s temple.
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
2. I am created in the image of God.
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
Genesis 1:26-27
3. I am to honor God with all parts of my body.
There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.
Proverbs 6:16-19
So what do all of these passages mean? They point to the fact that God lives in us through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. This means we are to create a clean place for Him to live and thrive. When our hearts and minds are cluttered with negativity or unhelpful attitudes, the Spirit is quenched and cannot do His work.
We must take care of ourselves physically and spiritually.
