When You Don’t Feel Like You’re Enough
The enemy would love us to believe that we are not enough. In fact, he uses the world to reinforce this lie on a daily basis.
The truth is, in God’s eyes, you are enough.
Just the fact that He created you says you have worth. I love how Psalm 139:16 talks about God having a purpose for each of us before we were even born.
Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
The world will tell you that you are not a good enough wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, worker, you name it unless you do what the world tells you to do. We’ve got to learn to recognize those lies when we hear them. We can’t look at our life on a day to day basis and judge our worth. God is the only one who is able to perfectly judge our worth, and He has already judged us worthy because of what Jesus did on the cross by dying for our sins.
Romans 8:1 says
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
If God didn’t love us and deem us worthy to be saved, He never would have sacrificed His Son for us.
Real Life Applications:
1. Study the Bible to learn what God has to say about your worth. Here are a few Bible verse references for you to look up on the subject of your worth. Psalm 8:3-5, Isaiah 43:1, Isaiah 43:25, Jeremiah 29:11-14, Philippians 1:6.
2. Keep a running list of your positive traits. This is not intended to make you think of yourself in a prideful way. List traits you find in the Bible that apply to you. I’m sure you can think of at least a few things. Start with something simple if you find this hard to do. Such as, if you know without a doubt that you love your family, write that down. Or maybe you are a conscientious and hard worker at your job, write that down. Don’t list physical traits because that’s how the world sees us. Write down traits that honor God. I think this list should be ongoing because God will continue to reveal these traits to you all through your life.
3. Surround yourself with encouraging people. When we are constantly surrounded by negative people, our feelings of self-worth can suffer. Make an effort to seek out those who are encouraging instead. Be careful though, you don’t want to surround yourself with people who will tell you only what you want to hear. That’s just as dangerous as being negative. You want to have people who you can count on for support but will also tell you the truth when you need to hear it.
