Does God Really Have a Purpose For My Life?

Does God Really Have a Plan For My Life-

I see women on all the time who struggle with being pulled in many different directions. They get so caught up in the busyness of life that they often miss out on the purpose God has for them. The mundane tasks of everyday life blinds them to this reality.

When I talk to these busy and frustrated women, I can tell they know they have been made for something more, but they just don’t know what that purpose is or how to figure it out.

Their main question is…

Does God really have a purpose for my life?

The answer is YES! A thousand times YES!

How do I know this?

Well, take a look at this passage from the book of Psalms:

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your books were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. Psalm 139:13-16 ESV

Did you catch that? God saw us before we were born and every one of our days on Earth was recorded before even a single day had happened.

I love verse 16 in the New Living Translation.

You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.

If God has seen our days even before we were born, then surely He must have a purpose for our lives.

We all share a common purpose of glorifying God in everything we do. We each have a specific purpose, too.

If you feel like you are just going through the motions each day trying to survive, then you need to take some time to figure out God’s purpose for you during this season of your life.

While I don’t have the space here to go into great detail about finding your purpose, I can give you a few steps to get you started.

1. Pray. As with anything else in our life, we need to begin the search for our purpose with prayer. Proverbs 19:21 warns us about making plans without God.

Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand.

2. Make a list of your current responsibilities. Often by seeing to what we are already committed written out, we are able to see responsibilities that we should not have. If you have prayed first, God will show you which commitments are not in line with His purpose for you right now.

3. Think about what you would like your life to be like. When we are overloaded with commitments and responsibilities, it’s easy to lose sight of dreams we used to have. Give yourself permission to dream and think about the like you want to have. Chances are God has placed dreams in you that only you can fulfill.

4. Evaluate your calendar. If we are overcommitted, then there will be no room to pursue our dreams. Read this post to learn how to clear your calendar.

5. Give it all back to God. Once you’ve started making headway and have an idea of your purpose in this season of life, give it all back to God. He really is the one who deserves all the glory. And, if you are living out His purpose for you, He will be with you to fulfill that purpose.
