Seeking Wisdom…Belief Not Doubt
I have been faced with several life circumstances lately that have been forcing me to my knees asking God for wisdom. Although I could come up with a long list of areas where I need wisdom, I’ll share just a few:
Raising teens
Launching my coaching business
Relationships
Serving in my local church
Taking care of my family and home
I have read through the book of James several times. It is one of my favorite books of the Bible as it has so many great truths that I can apply to my life. In fact, I chose James 1:22 as the verse to go with my word of the year…implement.
When I acknowledge that what I need most from God is wisdom, I go to James 1:5-8.
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.
Do you see it? In order to receive wisdom, we must believe and not doubt. This means we are to believe He will give us the wisdom we ask for if we come to Him with the right attitude. If we are demanding and proud, we will probably not receive the wisdom we seek. However, if we approach Him with humility and the belief that He wants to give us this good gift, we will receive the wisdom we so desperately need.
Will you join me today in believing God and asking Him for the wisdom we need to get through this thing we call life?
