Frugal Friday: What’s In Your Pantry?

What's In Your Pantry.jpg

So how did you do with last week’s homework assignment? Were you able to find things in your home that you didn’t realize you had? If you were like me, you discovered many items that were duplicates or that you could use without buying something new.

This Week’s Idea

This week I want to focus on one area that I’ve learned to make the most of…my pantry. For many years I’ve had a well stocked pantry. Each week I would head off to the grocery store and add more items to it without taking stock of what I really had.

Recently, I have begun to be more diligent about meal planning. One thing that helps me to save a little money is to build meals around what I already have on hand. This week I realized that we had four boxes of cereal as well as several breakfast burritos in the freezer. So, I decided we really didn’t need any other breakfast foods until we used up what we had.

I also discovered ham and ground beef in my freezer that I could use in recipes, so I made sure I planned meals that used these two ingredients. Using what you already have can help you save a little money at the grocery store.

Homework

I challenge you to go through your pantry and freezer to see what meals you can make with the ingredients you have on hand. Try finding meals that will help you buy as little as possible to supplement what you already have.

Leave a comment below to share what meals you were able to put together.
