DIY Microwave Popcorn
Our family loves to eat popcorn. We typically buy microwave popcorn so we can enjoy it whenever we want without digging out our air popcorn appliance.
However, all of the salt and oil that is found in pre-packaged microwave popcorn is not the best nutrients for our bodies. While microwave popcorn is convenient, it’s not the healthiest snack, especially if you buy the movie theater butter popcorn. (My favorite!)
A few weeks ago my husband read how to make your own microwave popcorn to save money. He experimented with different amounts of popcorn kernels and different times for popping. He finally came up with a result that works perfectly in our microwave.
Here is the super-simple process he used:
Take 1/3 cup of popcorn kernels and put them in a paper sack. We used the lunch size sacks.
Fold the top over and place in the microwave.
Cook the popcorn for 1 minute 15 seconds.
And there you have it…a full bowl of delicious popcorn! Almost all of the kernels popped and there was no burning. Add your favorite seasonings to flavor the popcorn.
I have a 1200-watt microwave oven. You may have to adjust the time if you have a smaller microwave.
What are some of your favorite snacks?

I love fresh popped popcorn and usually do it on the stove, but this is even better since there is no oil. I’ll have to give this a try. Would love for you to linkup tomorrow for the Let’s Get Real Blog Hop at 5PM EST. mypinterventures.com
Thanks for the invite to the linkup, Erlene! I’ll have to check it out. I think you will really like this method for making popcorn. Let me know how it turns out!

Hi Jennifer! I’m stopping in from Let’s Get Real today. This is my new favorite method for making popcorn. Even the teenager makes it this way now. It has to be easy for him to make something. I love that it doesn’t have lots of oil and artificial colors. I’m looking forward to reading more. You have lots of great ideas here. Hope to see you again this week.
Thanks for stopping by! I will definitely link up again this week!
My husband loves popcorn – we will have to try this! Thanks for linking up with the Let’s Get Real party. We hope you’ll join us again this week.
Thanks for stopping by Gaye! I’ll be sure to link up again this week.
That is SOOOO simple. I need to try this the next time the kids want popcorn. I refuse to buy the microwave popcorn in stores and have been opting for the stove top method. It takes much longer than 90 seconds. So this is great. I’m stopping by from the Let’s Get Real Friday Link Party. Thanks so much for joining us this week.
Thanks for stopping by! I agree this is the best method ever for popping popcorn. I’m glad we got to connect on Facebook, too!
