Redeeming the Wasted Hours {Balanced Challenge Day 11}
Well, here we are at the end of the Balanced Challenge. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading through my journey and have implemented some of the ideas that have been shared.
Tricia’s challenge for this last day is to share what we’ve learned and what changes we are going to make. She reminds us in Chapter 11 of Balanced that balance isn’t the ultimate goal. Knowing God is the ultimate goal.
The Balanced Challenge has made me really think about some things I’ve needed to focus on concerning my work life. It has given me the opportunity to flesh out some thoughts I’ve had for a while.
I’d have to say the biggest benefit I’ve received from doing this challenge is the proof that I can write consistently for 11 days in a row (12 if you count the book review). And, most importantly, I’ve learned that I can write at what I call non-traditional times (for me).
I used to try to put all my blogging work in during the day while my kids were at school and my husband was at work. Now I am using any available time I can find to work on my blog.
For example, after school my kids are usually doing homework or involved in an extra-curricular activity. I have found I have about 1 to 1 1/2 hours to do blog work if I need to. Also, in the evenings, my kids are either doing homework or upstairs doing something by themselves. Often my husband is working out or we are watching TV. I have been able to use at least 2 hours in the evening to work on my blog.
Once I discovered that I was not compromising family time or household chore time, I was much more open to use these normally wasted hours to move my blog forward.
So, if you feel that you will never have the time you need to be a work-at-home mom, I encourage you to start looking for pockets of time throughout your day that you can capture for work. Even a little time here and there can add up!
Leave a comment below and share one thing you’ve learned from the Balanced Challenge.
