Making the Most of Every Minute
Now that our summer vacation is over and we are finished with volunteering at VBS this week, I feel like our family can finally start our summer. That maybe sounds kind of crazy to you. However, I think of summer as a time when we have few obligations other than vacation and VBS. Once those things are behind us, I feel more settled for the season.
Of course, there are other things going on, but for the most part, we have a lot of free time on our hands now.
During the summer I like to work on bigger projects because I have more time to devote to them. I also like to establish new routines or tweak old ones so our home can run more smoothly.
One goal of mine this summer is to learn how to make the most of every minute. That’s not to say I am going to be busy every minute of the day. No way! I’m just going to make each minute count. Whether it is doing something to take care of my home, spending time with my kids, or relaxing, I want to be more intentional about how I spend my time.
I sometimes struggle with using the spare moments I find throughout my day. You know, those times when you have a few minutes before you need to leave the house or start working on another project.
Because I want to make every moment count, I have come up with a list of tasks I can complete in 5 minutes or less. Whenever I have a free moment, I can select one item from my list to work on.
I’ve also discovered a huge benefit from working on tasks 5 minutes at a time. When I look at my to-do list or see the clutter in various areas of my home, I can get overwhelmed. But, I’ve found that taking just 5 minutes several times a day to work on a task or pick up an area of my home makes a huge difference.
Here are a few tasks you can complete in 5 minutes:
- Respond to an email
- Respond to a text message
- Go through clutter on your kitchen countertop
- Go through your mail
- Pick up items that are in a room where they don’t belong
- Clean out your medicine cabinet
- Clean out your make up
- Select 5-10 items to donate to charity
I want to encourage you to give this a try. Just think how much you could accomplish in 5 minute increments throughout the day. Not only would you get things done, you would become more intentional about how you spend your time.
I don’t know about you, but I want to make the most of every moment. Will you join me?
