How I Organize My Jewelry

I have to admit that I’m a fan of beautiful jewelry. In fact, I love it so much, I have to talk myself out of buying many pieces because I know my jewelry storage is full. I don’t even wear half of what I have, though. I tend to wear the same things over and over.

Well, in an attempt to see what I have and to help me wear more of it, I finally came up with a system for organizing my jewelry. My “good” jewelry (the real stuff) is housed in a jewelry box beside my bed. What I’m going to talk about here is storing my costume jewelry.

When we first moved into our current home, I found these wonderful little bins at the Container Store. I envisioned separating my jewelry by color or finish and then storing it on a shelf in my closet.

That worked for a little while until I realized I had too many pieces stored in other places. It was time to edit what I had so I could keep what I thought I’d really wear.

Last summer we bought new bedroom furniture. That allowed me to take a chest I was using for a bedside table and turn it into a place to house my jewelry. The bins I had bought previously fit perfectly into the top drawer.

I used small zip bags from Hobby Lobby to contain each piece of jewelry.

Then I separated the jewelry by color and finish (gold/silver) and placed them in the bins. Now that the jewelry is contained in the zip bags, it’s easy to pull out one of the bins and search for the perfect piece to complement my outfit. I am finally wearing more of my jewelry because I can see it and access it more easily.

  1. I use the small zipper bags too. I use them in a hanging jewelry organized on the back of my closet door.
