119: How to Determine Your Priorities

Do you know what your priorities are in your current season of life?
Do you even know how to figure them out if you don’t?
In last week’s episode, I shared why it’s essential to know our priorities. I also shared how I realized that at least for January, all I can focus on besides the day-to-day things I do is taking care of my mom, finding a safe place for her to live, and finishing a freelance writing assignment due on February 1.
I’m so thankful that I’ve made a commitment to do just those things and have not tried to take on a lot more. This decision was confirmed last week as I had to get my mom to the hospital. She had some medical issues that could only be addressed in the hospital.
Thankfully her medical issues have been resolved, and she is now in rehab. While I hate that she’s had these medical issues, I’m grateful for the confirmation that she does not need to live alone anymore. It’s still hard to make that decision, but she realizes now she can’t live alone.
Anyway, all that to say, I’m glad I haven’t made other things a priority this month. Even though I’ve been trying to keep up with the daily things of life, I realize that I may have to let a few things slide until I get my mom settled and this writing project is done.
After I published last week’s episode, I realized I didn’t share one other essential thing concerning our priorities. And that is that knowing our priorities keeps us from wasting our time.
One of my favorite sets of bible verses that speaks to the importance of priorities is Ephesians 5:15-16. These verses say, “Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk-not as unwise people but as wise-making the most of time, because the days are evil.”

I’ve recently come across another verse that speaks to how we choose to spend our time. In Haggai 1:5, the Israelites were admonished to consider their ways. They had been busy rebuilding their own homes and neglecting rebuilding the temple. God reminded them of what was most important.
So you see, knowing our priorities not only helps us manage our time better, but it also helps us to live out what God has told us to do.

Yaaaayyy! Way to go Jennifer!!! This is the first podcast I was able to listen to. Good job Sister!!!
This is “God Dot” for sure because I’m in a season where I have to give more time and attention to my teen son. He was formally diagnosed with ADHD. Due to him being in 12th grade and only having 35 weeks left before he turns 18 and leaves the nest, I feel I need to prioritize and focus on helping him discover ways that will help him to plan and navigate his “day to day” activities on his own and develop skills that will help him to understand his strength and weaknesses. It was reassuring to be reminded to pause, pray and prioritize and let other things take a back seat in this season of my life.
Again, THANK YOU for sharing your timely wisdom. It will be fun to catch up with your past podcasts and hear your new ones, as well.
Keep shining bright for His glory.
May God continue to guide you and bless you Sister!!!
Gratefully,
Natalie Grooms
