117: How to Determine Focus Areas to Set Goals-Goal Setting Series #4

This episode ties all the work we’ve done in steps one through three of the goal-setting system together. Step four is about determining areas of life you want to focus on in the coming year and then setting goals within each focus area.

To do this step, you’ll need to refer back to the work you’ve done in steps one through three. That would mean you’d have reviewed the past year, evaluated different areas of your life, and determined how you want your life to look next year. Each of these steps involved questions and assessments to help you get a good sense of where you are now and where you want to be at the end of next year.

If you’ve not had a chance to listen to the episodes with information on how to do the first three steps, you’ll need to go back and listen to them before completing this step.

Determining areas of life to focus on in the coming year is a different way of setting goals. As I’ve mentioned in previous episodes, setting goals that are arbitrary and don’t produce a life change makes it hard to follow through and achieve them.

When you focus on just a few areas of your life in one year, you will have a better chance to change your life by actually achieving your goals.

Listen to the episode to learn how you choose focus areas for the coming year.

In This Episode, We Cover:

  • How to assess the work you did in steps one through three to help you determine your focus areas.
  • Why you should not have too many focus areas.
  • How to pick goals for each focus area.
