Clothing Storage: Folding T-Shirts

Out of all the clothes that my husband and I own, we have more t-shirts than anything else. Between t-shirts from vacations and races, we have more than our fair share.

Right now, I’m hanging my t-shirts in my closet. But, to free up some closet space, I’m considering other options. My husband has some in the closet as well as in a dresser drawer.

His have been folded and stacked on top of each other. It made it difficult to find a specific shirt without messing up the rest.

A few weeks ago I came across a nifty tool that will help you fold t-shirts perfectly and precisely as they are folded in a store. Now, I’m sure a lot of you may be thinking that you don’t need some tool to help you. But I am not a neat folder, so when I saw this, I knew I had to have it.

It’s called the Flip Fold and I purchased it at The Container Store.

Here is how it works.

Step 1: Place the t-shirt face down in the middle of the Flip Fold.

Step 2: Fold the left side in.

Step 3: Fold the right side in.

Step 4: For larger shirts, fold the bottom up to make it even with the Flip Fold. Then make sure the right sleeve is folded out of the way.

Step 5: Fold the bottom up to meet the top.

Step 6: I have taken it another step by folding the t-shirt in half. This way I can file the shirts away in our unusually shaped dresser drawer. My husband can then flip through them and pick out the one he wants without messing up the whole stack.

Here is what it looks like after I folded all of the t-shirts.

I hope this helps to solve your t-shirt storage problems. Leave a comment and share how you store your t-shirts.
