3 Habits That Hinder Productivity
We all want to make the most of our time.Usually, if we put our minds to it, we can often accomplish a lot.
Did you know, though, you may have habits that hinder your productivity?
As I’ve been trying to get more accomplished in the time I have available each day, I’ve discovered three habits that are keeping me from being productive.
Do you share these habits?
Being a “yes” woman. Too often my mouth fills up my calendar and to do list before I even know what has happened! While I feel a sense of obligation not to mention joy in serving in my church or at my children’s school, I often find myself taking on roles or responsibilities that I do not have time for or am not the best qualified to do. I have learned to not automatically answer a request for my service. I tell the person I need to have a day or two to look over my calendar and evaluate if I have the time and if the task I’m being asked to do. That way I don’t overload my schedule.
Spending too much time “getting organized.” I’ve shared before how much I love office supplies. I can get so distracted creating systems with pretty binders, folders, or containers, that I never actually get anything done. I am trying my best now to use what I have on hand. Staying out of office supply stores also helps! If I don’t see pretty office supplies, then I won’t be tempted to buy them.
Giving into distractions. Email, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest…these are all great tools, but spending too much time on them kills productivity. I have learned to turn off alerts on my phone and computer so that I’m not constantly checking updates. I’m working on finding a time each day to devote to social media and email. By limiting my interaction with these sites, I can better accomplish what I need to do each day.
I know there are probably other habits I have that hinder my productivity. These three were the ones that stood out to me.
